Welcome to the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta School Library!

Let's cheer on our home town team! Go, Cards! At your BTC Library, we have many books of interest to baseball fans of all ages, so you can keep that Cardinal Spirit going strong.

Our fiction collection for younger readers includes favorites like The Babe and I by David Adler, Play Ball, Amelia Bedieia by Peggy Parish, My Dad's Baseball by Ron Cohen, and Arthur and the 7th Inning Stretcher by Marc Brown. Older students will enjoy Mudville, by Kurtis Scaletta, andThe Journal of Biddy Owens by Walter Dean Myers, a fictionalized account of a ballplayer in the Negro League. They will also find many baseball-themed selections by authors Matt Christopher and Mike Lupica.

Nonfiction books for younger students include T-Ball is our Game by Joan Downing and a beginners series on hitting, pitching, and baserunning. Biographies of Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, and Babe Ruth will be of interest to older BTC students. Our collection of DK Eyewitness books such as Play Ball!, Baseball, and World Series, is always a hit.

My favorite baseball story is actually a poem; Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic. The story of the Mudville nine and the "mighty Casey" is as exciting today as it was when it was first published in 1888! The BTC library has a copy of the poem, beautifully illustrated by Christopher Bing.  It is the perfect read-aloud story. But be prepared ... there is a suprise in the bottom of the ninth inning!

Happy reading! - Mrs. Hayek
