Who is St. Teresa of Calcutta?

Saint Teresa (1910–1997) dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor through unwavering faith and compassion. Born Gonxha in Skopje, she joined the Sisters of Loreto at age 18 and later taught in Kolkata before experiencing her "call within a call" to serve those most in need. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which grew into a worldwide ministry caring for the sick, hungry, dying, and abandoned. Her extraordinary witness to faith and selfless service earned international recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize. After her death in 1997, she was canonized by Pope Francis in 2016, and her legacy continues to inspire people around the world to live lives of love, mercy, and service.
